November 2nd saw anniversary celebrations at ‘Green Witch’, The Telescope and Binocular Specialists located in Birstal, organised by Dr Lee Sproats. Staff from the shop hosted a day of events at their High Street premises and at the Wellbeing Centre around the corner. There was equipment demonstrations, competitions and a fundraising raffle in aid local charrities.
Various astronomical and wildlife societies had stalls at the Wellbeing Centre to showcase their work to potential new members. Society member Linda Schofield represented Keighley Astronomical Society at this event. Linda said all went very well (after my last minute panic about how to download photos from the website Gallery – it’s all very well being a self taught IT user, but sometimes the power of lateral thinking is in short supply!) .
As it was, I think we had the best slide show of all the societies present. I made some useful contacts and hope we can make use of them. A number of people were interested in coming over to a meeting and meet up.
Linda made links with, Pontefract AS, Bradford AS, Leeds AS, and Wakefield AS. As my reward, for what was a really interesting day, even I managed to win one of the raffle prizes – an annual subscription to Sky at Night magazine!
