On the evening of Wednesday 18th January 2017. Earby astronomical society held a star party at Cracoe village hall, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales national park.

Also invited to attend where neighbouring astronomy societies from Bradford and Keighley. The event was being recorded and broadcast live by local community broadcaster ‘Drystone Radio’

There was a large gathering of local residents together with those who had travelled from as far as Wakefield and Leeds. Several large telescopes were on display, as well as examples of deep space objects imaged by astrophotographer Jack Parsons.

As well as the optical instruments, Bradford Astronomical society were showing how digital images captured using a telescope could be improved and enhanced by simple computer programmes.

As the sky was covered in a blanket of cloud, astronomer Mr Martin Lunn OBE FRAS kept the audience entertained with several presentations on the big screen covering ‘navigating the night sky’ and the ‘solar system’.
