Keighley astronomical society where invited by the ‘friends of Northcliffe Park’, Shipley,to take part in the family orientated event. Paul and Dominic ran a rocket building event. The children built their own paper rockets, decorated them, and then with the aid of a compressed air launcher, they tested their designs in flight. For the very young we provided space images for colouring in.

We were so popular we were overrun with children and parents. We estimate that over 200 children took part. We ran out of materials and the foot-pumps

used to operate the rocket launcher needed replacing due to over use!!

The society’s participation in this event was totally funded by the last of the grant from Skipton building societies ‘Grassroots Giving fund’. A big thank you again to the Grassroots giving fund.

It was great to see the excited smiles on the faces of the participants.

A great day was had by all
