Keighley Astronomical society were delighted to have as this months guest speaker Prof  Jamie Gilmour from the  school of Earth, atmospheric and Environmental sciences, at the University of Manchester. His presentation was titled, ‘Meteorites, stardust and the early Solar System. Prof Gilmour and his colleagues analyse samples of Meteors and  Meteorites  that have fallen to earth to establish the chemical composition of the solar system at the time of its creation. He has worked on samples from all the major meteors to have hit the earth, including the Chelyabinsk meteor that landed in Siberia on the 15th February 2013, with much media interest. He brought several meteorite samples for society members to inspect. Dr Gilmour stated he would look forward to visiting us again in the future.
